Like many brands, Masai Copenhagen was born of a dream. Masai was founded by two siblings from Copenhagen who wished there was a brand that uplifted women, celebrated diversity, and crafted clothes that were as consciously-made as they were beautiful. They decided to make this dream a reality, and in 1992, Masai Copenhagen was born.
Since then, Masai has been creating thoughtful, timeless collections with artistic influences, featuring flattering shapes intentionally designed for movement and effortless comfort. We cherish our Danish heritage and ground our brand philosophy in our Danishness from the way we design, to our view on life and the world around us. Our favorite part of what we do, however, is seeing how you create your own stories with our pieces.
If you have never been to Denmark, first of all, book that plane ticket! Comfort, fluidity, and effortless elegance are all at the base of our brand as a reflection of our Danish culture.
For too long women have been conditioned to believe that fitting into a certain dress size was an achievement. This kind of thinking breeds unrealistic standards and certainly does not embrace inclusivity. At Masai Copenhagen, we want to change all that. We believe that clothes should be made to fit us, rather than making our bodies fit certain clothes. Bodies are pieces of art too, and they should be celebrated as such. You wouldn’t hang a Monet on a wall that is too small for the frame and say “oh well, let’s cut the painting down to fit!” This is the approach we take to creating our collections. At Masai, sustainability is woven into everything we do. We put an emphasis on ethics because we are committed to thoughtfulness in all forms. From ensuring ethical production to investing in high-quality, eco-friendly materials, we consider the entire life-cycle of a garment. Masai has also established a partnership with Canopy, a world-renowned environmental organization. As a Canopy Partner, we are helping to support conscious paper and fabric production systems that avoid exploiting ancient and endangered forests to create our materials. We are committed to influencing our supply chains to protect the world’s remaining endangered forests and habitats.
